Premalatha started her career as a teacher of fine arts which included painting and music (both vocal and instrumental). But for the past 20 years she has concentrated on teaching students the traditional art of TANJORE PAINTING.
Tanjore paintings were greatly patronized by the Maratha rulers of tanjore during the 19th century. The paintings are characterized by embellishments of semi-precious stones, pearls glass pieces and gold leaves. The subjects of these pictures are mainly gods from the Hindu pantheon. The colors are vivid, vibrant and contrasting. No attempts are made at shading. Typically, the figures appear exaggerated in size and shape. The ornaments are intricate and ostentations.
